U-16 Boys Advance to State Cup Semi-Finals,
but fall short of reaching Finals....
The Vardar East U-16 Boys State Cup run is over for this year. They played the defending State Cup Champion Vardar, ranked number 1 in the State and number 20Nationally, in the State Cup Semi Finals Sunday in Saginaw. The game was scoreless after regulation time and two 15 minute overtime periods. The game proceeded to penalty kicks, and remained tied until the 7th shooter.
“I am proud of the boy’s and their performance in the State Cup. We proved over the course of 5 games that we belong with the top teams in the state. Today’s game was a good test, and although Vardar carried the play at times, we did not back down and had our chances as well. Neither keeper really had to make many saves, but they had to be sharp on the many crosses that were played into the box. Today’s performance will give our boy’s confidence in the future knowing that they can perform in big games” said Coach Jerome Hickey. “We will be back, better prepared and hungrier than ever.”
